LOCAL ATTRACTIONS
The Kampong Once the home and gardens of David Fairchild, plant explorer for whom the local botanical garden, Fairchild Tropical Gardens (see below) was named. Now property of the National Tropical Botanical Garden and sadly, rarely open to the public.
Vizcaya Museum and Gardens. Italian Renaissance-style villa with more than 10 acres of formal gardens, terraces and fountains overlooking Biscayne Bay. It features 34 rooms of 15th- through 19th-century antique furnishings and decorative arts.
Miami Museum of Science & Planetarium. Features hands-on exhibits on everything from robotic dinosaurs to virtual reality basketball, as well as star and space shows
Florida State Parks. Multiple recipient of the National Recreation and Parks Association's Gold Medal Award, honoring Florida as the "Nation's Best State Park Service".
St. Stephen's Art & Craft Show. Local Episcopal Church hosts offers Fine Art & Fine Craft show which features 150 national and international fine artists and fine crafts people in parallel to the larger Coconut Grove Event (Presidents' weekend in February). Free admission!
King Mango Strut Residents of the Grove dress up and put on farcical floats mocking the year's events. Occurs end of year, between Christmas and the New Year.
Goombay Festival Coconut Grove Coconut Grove celebrates its Bahamian roots. The traditional music of The Bahamas is Goombay, which combines the musical traditions from Africa with that of the European colonial influence
